About

I started this site out of frustration, if I’m being honest. Most home decor content online gives you the beautiful photograph and the vague caption. No explanation of why those particular colours work together, what was tried first that didn’t work, or how to adapt the idea to a room that isn’t a perfect white-walled rectangle with ideal northern light. I found that gap frustrating as someone who has spent years thinking seriously about how rooms work, and I decided to try to fill it.

What I write about is practical in a specific way. Not the kind of practical that means cheap or easy, but the kind that means grounded in real decisions. How does this colour behave in artificial light? What size mirror actually works in a dining room this size? Which of these two approaches holds up over time and which one dates within a year? Those are the questions I find interesting, and they are the questions the articles on this site try to answer.

My background is in home styling and interior decoration, and I have been writing about it seriously for several years. The site covers living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, dining rooms, and entryways, with a particular interest in colour, layout, and the decisions that make a room feel genuinely finished rather than assembled. Most of the articles are long and detailed on purpose. I would rather write one thorough piece that answers the real question than several short ones that talk around it.

For the more spontaneous side of things (colour swatches I am currently testing, rooms I keep coming back to, the odd before-and-after) I share fairly regularly on Instagram. And if you are the kind of person who saves ideas to return to later, I keep a running collection of everything that has shaped how I think about rooms on Pinterest. It is probably the most honest record of where my visual instincts actually come from.

The articles on this site are not sponsored and are not written to promote any brand or product. If I think something is overpriced or does not work as well as it is supposed to, I say so. The site is ad-supported, which means display advertising may appear on pages, but that does not influence what I cover or how I write about it.

If you have a question about a specific room problem, a piece of feedback about an article, or something you think I have got wrong, leave a comment or reach me at admin@decorheavenly.com. I cannot promise a quick reply but I do read and respond to the ones I can genuinely help with.

If you are new here, the best place to start is probably the room type you are currently trying to fix. The articles are written to stand alone, so you do not need to read the site in any particular order. Just find the problem you are actually dealing with and go from there.
